Town Hall: Listening and Serving the City

Mars Hill Church Downtown is hosting respected Seattle leader Susan Hutchison this Sunday, August 9th at 8pm for the last Town Hall event of the summer. Join us as we look for more opportunities to better serve and love our city.
A Heart for the City
I love Seattle. I was born and raised here. I was one of the faithful few who endured the torturous 100-loss Mariner season in one of the most beautiful buildings in the world….the Kingdome. My wife and I plan on spending our lives here, raising our family here, and loving and serving the city and people of Seattle.
Here at Mars Hill Church Downtown Seattle our passion and heart is to serve, love and care for this great city we call home. Providentially, we have been placed in a great location, right smack dab in the middle of Seattle. We are not interested in politicking. We are not concerned about getting into office. We are concerned about our city and want to help. We want to locate areas of need. We want to find the gaps. We want to focus on the people, not the problem. As our community continues to grow, we think it’s important to perpetually rally people to serve, rather than consume, the city.
Engaging the City
In our pursuit of asking questions, building relationships, and identifying needs, we have begun a summer series entitled, “Town Hall.” It’s our attempt to get the people of Mars Hill Church Downtown Seattle engaged with what’s happening with our city by inviting city leaders to share their perspective and vision for how inviduals living in Seattle can recognize gaps, opportunities to serve, and increase their own awareness.
Last month, we had the privilege of welcoming Seattle City Council-member and former Husky football legend Bruce Harrell to MHC Downtown for our Town Hall. We had a great discussion and learned about many opportunities in our city, namely, a youth violence initiative that Council-member Harrell is spearheading.
Susan Hutchison

This Sunday, August 9 at 8pm we will hold our final Town Hall for the summer and we are excited to welcome Susan Hutchison. Susan anchored the nightly news on KIRO TV for over 20 years, winning five Emmy awards along the way. Hutchison is now the Executive Director of the Charles Simonyi Fund for Arts and Sciences, a Seattle-based philanthropic foundation that provides grants to organizations demonstrating excellence in the arts, sciences and education programs. The foundation’s local partners include Seattle Public Schools, Seattle Public Library, Seattle Symphony, Seattle Art Museum, Pacific Science Center, Museum of Flight, Bellevue Arts Museum, Medical Teams International, Issaquah Village Theater, Seattle Opera, Seattle Children’s Hospital, and several others totaling more than $30 million. We are thrilled to spend some time with Susan, a recognized leader in Seattle, and dialogue about the needs of our city. Susan is running for the non-partisan office of King County Executive, recently vacated by Ron Sims.
NOTE: These Town Hall events are not held for fundraising purposes, nor does Mars Hill Church sponsor any candidate in elections, but want to open up a dialogue as we look to get involved and help love our city.
We want to see the city changed. We want to see it transformed (Jeremiah 29:7).
Hope to see you on Sunday.
