Mars Hill Downtown Making Culture

At Mars Hill part of our mission statement is: “knowing culture.” If you have been around the Downtown campus for a while you have heard and seen our heart for this. We are always staying on the cutting edge of what is happening in our culture so that we can best bring the gospel of Jesus Christ into that context. This week two key parts of our campus have gotten some great media attention.

Storyville Coffee

You drink it every week. On the cold days you see the steam rising from the cup. It tastes fresh. It is fresh. You sip it and love it. Mars Hill proudly brews and serves Storyville Coffee. In fact the creator is a long time Mars Hill member. This week they got some great national coverage in the New York Times. Read here http://topics.blogs.nytimes.com/tag/coffee/

Ivan and Alyosha

Another awesome part of our campus is the band Ivan and Alyosha. You have heard them lead us in worship on Sunday but may not know that they are actually a popular local band. They will be playing a live in-studio performance on KEXP 90.3 Saturday, December 13th at 9PM. In addition they have a benefit acoustic show at 7PM tonight at The Greenwood Sip & Ship. Admission is one non-perishable food item.

“Seattle Sound Magazine recently reviewed Ivan and Alyosha’s new album: http://www.seattlesoundmag.com/2008/08/ivan-alyoshathe-verse-the-chorus/

Also next week if you want to check out a great show in a great venue they will be playing on November 30th at Chop Suey in Capitol Hill. These guys are awesome and have a heart not only for leading people in worship of Jesus but also to be missional to the music community of Seattle and beyond.”

Have a good weekend. Keep on knowing culture and making culture!

Today, as the snow dumped on downtown Seattle, I heard someone [...]
